Think about that concept though, what if Heaven were only a mile away? What if you could pull to the end of your cul de sac, make a left, and there you are? What if you could walk there as conveniently as you do to the 7-11? On your way to fellowship every week you had to drive by it? Would it change your faith walk? Would it change the way you deal with others? How about the way you treat your loved ones?
Think about it for a moment, what if Heaven was a tangible place right up the block in your neighborhood? That would be awesome! Don't know if I'm quite ready for that. If I had to drive by Heaven everyday not sure if it would motivate or depress me. As for Brother Adryann, I'm glad it's not a mile away. Don't be shocked, you'll understand where I'm going in a minute...little patience.
What I've failed to mention yet is why this song meant so much to my roommates and I. Both of them are Christians too. Even in the midst of our mess, you'd be hard pressed to come around and the conversation not turn to the Lord. It was impossible to come in that little one bedroom, housing three men, and not see the Bibles. As we listened to that song, we knew the reality of Heaven. We were aware that it was close, not far off, not a fleeting hope, it is a tangible place. This song just helped to remind us in the times it felt like we were literally in Hell. I know Barnes and ShaT both reading this shaking their heads in agreement.
If Heaven were a mile away, all of us would act right. If we knew we could just walk straight in, we'd drop all the wrong we do. We would rebuke those thoughts, reverse those actions, and surely bridle our tongues. Imagine it, salvation just a mile away.
Well, guess what? Heaven nor salvation are a mile away Sisters and Brothers. AMEN? Salvation is on the tip of your tongue, Redemption is but a surrendering second from you. And Heaven, the wonderful thing about Heaven is....it's not a place you're trying to get to. Study your scriptures. In fact, I don't recall at anytime the Word saying anything about us going to Heaven. I do recall something about Him regenerating the earth. Yet, I'm not a theologian so that is debatable.
What I am sure about Heaven is what Jesus said, and that's the verse I'm going to leave for y'all to meditate on. It says in Luke 17:20-21 (NKJV); "Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, 'The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.' "
Stop waiting to get to Heaven, all these gifts He's given you are all you need for Heaven now. It says He will never withhold one good thing for the righteous. I didn't put a scripture reference, because there are a few. Uh oh.....opportunity for some bible study. Live righteously, live humble, live obediently, live graciously. Then praise Him that Heaven isn't a mile away, praise Him because He placed it inside of you. Love y'all.
