"There are so many stories that come to mind when considering humility and
obedience. We do not always see the reward for being humble and obedient but
rest assured there is one. The most emphatic example of such is the stoning of
Stephen. Stephen was a true man of God that rested on God's principles and His
Word above circumstance, opinion and self-preservation.
(Acts 7)
Another example, is Phillip running to teach the man the meaning of Isaiah. If
he was not humble and obedient enough to do what God asked him to do, he would
have blocked this man seeking understanding from learning what God would have
him to understand. (Acts 8)
If you go back in time as early as Noah
building an ark, or Abraham offering Isaac, or even Lot not turning back - you
can see how each were simply humble enough to do what God said to in the face of
obvious adversity yet obedient enough to move when God said move. There are a
million of such stories, from a prophet told to anoint Jehu (2 Kings 9) and run
for his life, to Ehud stabbing a king with a belly full of dirt. (Judges
3)
But the greatest of these is love."
