There was a minister who often visited with us at the MIND dorm in Prince William County. I don't have time to explain how this dorm works, yet you can Google it or head on over to Amazon and get a copy of Job 32:18. This minister had a gift of prophecy so we would bombard him with questions. From time to time he would speak a word over our life, yet most times he would simply answer; "Don't get so caught up in the gift, you forget the Gift Giver." I thought I understood what he was saying then, and to an extent I did. Over the last year though the truth of that statement echoes in my everyday life.
Once He reveals our gift, if we're obedient, we begin to operate in it. We go out and do whatever we can with it to further the Kingdom. Over time others begin to recognize that gift. Over time others may begin to bestow the titles of "expert" and "authority" on us. There's nothing wrong with inspiring others, I'm all for it. If I listed all the people that inspired me....I'd break the internet. The problem comes in to play when we stop being inspired by Him and His children He's sent to us.
It's easy to get inspired by the titles and the accolades. Rather than being inspired by His Spirit. When we begin to feed in to the hype, when we begin to allow what others have said about us to define who we are.....a fall is a coming. It's as we grow in our ministries that we must remind ourselves daily of our true condition. Yes, we are His children....saved by grace and mercy. Not by our gifts. Our gifts are simply extensions of His grace and mercy to others through us. Our only part to play is to remain humble.
We all want to reach the highest heights, we all want to be on top. I'm all for success: economic, academic, whatever else you can think of. Yet first and foremost, I'm all for spiritual success. Getting caught up in the hype can cause us all to miss reaching the true heights we're purposed for.
It may be easy to lose focus on the here and now when the Father tells you when you're headed. Easy to get anxious, and want the culmination now. Yet, be patient. There are vital tools and skills we will pick up on the way that will be needed when you get to that point. AMEN. It's alright to look at what's ahead, it's not alright to get ahead of yourself. He's placed greatness in each of us, because He's placed His Spirit in each of us that have chosen to accept Him.
As always, I write these to spark meditation. I pray you'll take some time in reflection to see where in your life you can work on this truth. I've got a couple thousand places, so that's why I'm always busy. As you edify others, praise the Gift Giver when you're building them up. Trust me, they will appreciate it. Instead of telling them they did a great job, tell them it's awesome what the Lord is doing through them. Dig it? Here's a verse to meditate on; I'll get with y'all next week. LOVE YA LOVE YA LOVE YA
